Bait and Switch!!! Read their TOS!
This is an astonishingly elegant app that should satisfy 95% of newspaper junkies. While many (most?) of these newspapers have an online edition, this app reminds me of how much information is left behind in the changeover to web publishing. It is pure joy to read newspapers from around the world in their print versions (with ads, tables, pictures, and countless other tidbits of local color.) Of course, some elite papers are not included (NY Times, WS Journal, Frankfurter Allegemeine Zeitung, London Times, etc.). Still, you can find many great ones like Le Monde, Neu Zuercher Zeitiung, Washington Post, in their full printed glory. The all-you-can-eat version of this app is admittedly pricey in the age of nearly free news. However, for an oldtimer newspaper junkie who remembers what his old habit used to cost him, I think it is a good deal.
The main reason I cant give this app five stars is that it still crashes much, much too frequently. Some papers seem more crash prone than others, often createing a frustrating experience for the end user. I have been using 3.0 since its release and have yet to see a single bug fix update. This is totally unacceptable in a product with such a high monthly tariff. Come on NewsPaper Direct! Fix the problems! Otherwise, it is the Ipad equivalent of having your newspaper delivery person throwing your paper into wet bushes every other day.
August 2015 Update. Well, folks, it appears that I am too much of a news junkie. I have been getting warnings that I am in violation of PressReaders TOS. While the PR promise of "unlimited access" for monthly subscriptions seems to offer an all-you-can-eat buffet of newspaper reading, there are limits. PressReaders TOS defines excessive use as more than 100 issues per month. In practical terms, this means daily access to three newspapers with 10 issues of other papers/mags added. How is this "unlimited access"? I still like the service but I can get EXACTLY my choice of top three newspapers by direct subscription for roughly equivalent price. I can no longer recommend PressReader monthly membership given TOS limitations and recent removal of favorite newspapers from their stable of offerings.
